De-Genius Academy in Ikorodu marked its Swallow Day on Monday, September 25th, 2025, with a celebration of African cuisine and cultural heritage. The event, held on the school premises, highlighted the role of food in preserving history and instilling cultural pride among students.

The program featured a variety of staple African swallows including eba, pounded yam, wheat and semovita, served with soups such as Vegetable, Egusi, Okra, and Ewedu. Beyond the meals, the initiative emphasized the nutritional benefits of these foods, noting their richness in essential vitamins and minerals that support a balanced diet.

Swallow Day also served as a platform to challenge the perception that traditional swallows are meals reserved for the less enlightened. Students were guided through the preparation process and introduced to proper dining etiquette, ensuring they appreciated both the cultural and nutritional aspects of the dishes.

By weaving together history, food and education, the academy reinforced the importance of sustaining African traditions while promoting healthy eating habits among young learners.
